Nyos Goldpods 250ml : Liquid Copepods for Fussy Marine Fish and LPS Corals
Your anthias pick at pellets, turn away from flake, and only wake up when something drifts past that looks alive.
That is a nutrition problem, not a water problem. Fish that refuse dry food lose condition quietly, and sensitive LPS corals go hungry beside them. Leave it and the gap widens.
Nyos Goldpods is a liquid concentrate of Calanus finmarchicus, a 2mm Arctic copepod rich in marine fats. Feed fish a few drops at a time, many times a day, and target feed LPS corals once or twice a week with a pipette.
Picture anthias rising through the water the moment the bottle appears, and a Euphyllia fanning open as the pipette hovers.
I have cultured live marine food in Wales since 2008, and I am happy to talk through your routine.
Give your fussiest fish a reason to meet you at the glass every day.
Nyos Goldpods UK: Feed the Fish That Ignore Everything Else
Every reef keeper eventually owns a fish that will not play by the rules. A newly imported wrasse that looks at flake as if it were gravel. A pair of anthias that need feeding three times a day and still look thin by Friday. A fussy dragonet that watches the pellets fall and swims away. Nyos Goldpods 250ml is a liquid Calanus copepod concentrate that gives those fish something that looks and moves like real food, straight from the bottle, with no thawing and no mess. I stock it alongside our live cultures because the two solve different problems, and plenty of keepers end up using both.
Why Fussy Marine Fish Ignore Pellets
Most fish that refuse dry food are not being difficult. They evolved to pick small, moving prey out of the water column, and a pellet sinking in a straight line does not trigger that response. The result is a fish that eats just enough to survive and never enough to thrive. Body condition slips, colour flattens, and in a busy community tank the quick eaters take whatever does land.
Anthias are the classic example because they feed almost constantly in the wild, so a twice daily feed does not match what their bodies expect. Sensitive LPS corals such as Euphyllia, Lobophyllia and Trachyphyllia have their own version of the same problem. They capture meaty particles, and they often sit hungry in tanks where every bit of food is aimed at the fish.
What Is Inside Nyos Goldpods Liquid Copepod Food
Goldpods contains Calanus finmarchicus, a calanoid copepod of around 2mm from the cold waters of the Arctic. Calanus is naturally rich in marine fatty acids, which is why it is so widely used for delicate marine animals. The difficulty with any harvested copepod is what happens next, because enzymes in the animal begin breaking down fatty acids and proteins almost straight away. Nyos process their catch using a method developed with a Norwegian university that stops those enzymes, so more of the original nutrition is still there when the bottle reaches your tank. It is supplied as a ready to use liquid concentrate in a 250ml bottle.
How to Feed Goldpods to Fish and LPS Corals
Turn off your pumps first so the food stays where you put it, then add a few drops and watch how quickly it is taken. Little and often beats one large feed, so spread small portions across the day and stop the moment your fish slow down. Goldpods can go in directly with a pipette or the measuring cup, or you can dilute it with a little tank water in a separate container first.
For LPS corals, draw a small amount into a pipette or turkey baster and release it gently towards the coral once or twice a week, after the lights are off. Wait until the feeding tentacles are out before you feed. Shake the bottle before use because the copepods settle, and store it in a cool, dark place with the lid closed. Some keepers run Goldpods through a peristaltic doser when they are away. If you want to try that, test a short run first, because particles this size can clog narrow tubing.
Goldpods, Live Copepods and Pod-Shot: Where Each One Fits
I am straight with customers about this because it saves them money. Goldpods is preserved food. It will not breed in your refugium, it will not seed a sandbed and it does not replace live copepods. If you want a self-sustaining population that feeds the tank for months, that is the job of our live copepods. If you want something live in the tank today with no preparation, Pod-Shot is the quick top-up. Goldpods sits on your shelf, is ready on any day you need it, and gives fussy fish and LPS corals a rich, properly sized meal in between. Keepers who run live pods for the long-term population and Goldpods for daily feeding get the benefit of both.
Nyos Goldpods FAQ
Does Nyos Goldpods need thawing or refrigeration?
No thawing is needed because it is supplied as a ready to use liquid. Store the bottle in a cool, dark place with the lid closed, and shake it before each use.
Will my fussy fish eat it?
Anthias and many delicate carnivores take it readily because it looks and behaves like real plankton. Every fish is an individual though, and one that has refused everything may need a few days. For mandarin dragonets and other live prey specialists, live copepods remain my first recommendation.
How much should I feed?
Small amounts, several times a day, and only what is eaten quickly. There is no fixed rate per litre because it depends on your stocking and how hungry your fish are. If food is still drifting after a couple of minutes, you have added too much.
Is it safe to use with corals?
Yes, it is intended for LPS corals and works best as a target feed with a pipette. Keep portions small and run your skimmer as normal so any excess is removed.
Can I feed it alongside phytoplankton?
Yes. Goldpods covers the larger, copepod sized particles while phytoplankton feeds the smallest filter feeders, so the two complement each other.
Build a Complete Feeding Routine
Goldpods works well as one part of a wider routine. Pair it with live copepods to build a long-term population, add Pod-Shot for an instant live top-up, or dose 5 Species Phytoplankton to feed the filter feeders and copepods that Goldpods does not reach. If you are unsure how it fits your tank, email me and I will help. Darren responds personally.
