Nyos Chromys 250ml : Liquid Mysis Food for Reef Fish and LPS Corals
Mysis is the food your tangs, angels and clowns go for first, so it ends up doing most of the work in your feeding routine.
Lean on one food and the gaps show. A whole cube goes in at once, the big fish take the lot, and smaller mouths watch it go by.
Nyos Chromys is a liquid Mysis relicta concentrate with particles from 0.2mm to 20mm. Add a few drops at a time, several times a day, only what is eaten quickly. Target feed LPS corals with a pipette.
Picture every fish feeding together, from the smallest clown to the biggest tang, on a cloud of mysis that needed no defrosting.
I have cultured live marine food in Wales since 2008, so ask me about your routine.
Feed little and often, and watch every fish in the tank get its share.
Nyos Chromys UK: Liquid Mysis for Reef Fish, Ready When You Are
Mysis is the food most reef fish go for first. Tangs, angels, clowns and most wrasse take it without persuasion, which is why it becomes the backbone of so many feeding routines. The catch is that mysis usually arrives as a frozen cube. You defrost it, rinse it, hope it does not cloud the water, and tip it in. Nyos Chromys 250ml removes those steps. It is a liquid concentrate of Mysis relicta that you shake and feed straight from the bottle, which makes little and often feeding much easier to keep up.
Why Mysis Works So Well for Marine Fish
Mysis are small crustaceans that fish recognise as real prey, and that recognition is half the battle with any food. Their size and texture suit a wide range of species, from grazing tangs that enjoy meaty food as a supplement to carnivorous wrasse and angels that do well on crustacean based diets. Because most fish accept it so readily, mysis is also a food many keepers use to get a new arrival eating while it settles in.
A food that nearly every fish takes is a useful tool, but it is worth feeding in a way that gets it to every fish, not only the quickest one in the tank.
What Is in Nyos Chromys Liquid Mysis Food
Chromys contains Mysis relicta, with particles from around 0.2mm up to 20mm, so it suits small mouthed fish as well as larger ones. It is supplied as a ready to use liquid concentrate in a 250ml bottle with no defrosting. Because the particles are a mix of sizes, a single dose gives the smaller fish in your tank something they can actually swallow, rather than watching larger pieces go to the dominant fish.
How to Feed Nyos Chromys Little and Often
Shake the bottle well before each use. Add a few drops, see how quickly the fish clear it, and stop when they slow down. Feeding only what is eaten within a couple of minutes keeps uneaten food out of your filter, and spreading small feeds across the day suits a mixed community far better than one big feed. Target feed LPS corals with a pipette when their tentacles are out, using small amounts. Store the bottle in a cool, dark place with the lid closed.
Keepers often ask about dosing pumps. Some people run Chromys through a peristaltic doser for holiday cover. The larger particles can clog narrow tubing, so use wide bore tubing, keep the line short, and test it for a few days before you go away.
Chromys Compared With Frozen Mysis and Live Food
Frozen mysis is still a perfectly good food, and if you already use it I am not going to tell you to stop. What Chromys adds is convenience, because nothing needs defrosting, and consistency, because feeding small portions several times a day becomes realistic rather than aspirational.
It is preserved food, though, so think of it as a clean alternative to frozen rather than a live food. We also sell live mysis if you want something moving in the tank. For live copepods and zooplankton, the two sit well alongside Chromys. Zoo-Shot is a ready to use live feed for corals and fish, and live copepods build a refugium population that keeps feeding the tank.
Nyos Chromys FAQ
Does Nyos Chromys need defrosting?
No. It is a ready to use liquid, so you shake the bottle and feed straight from it.
What size are the particles?
From around 0.2mm up to 20mm, so both small and large mouths have something they can take.
Can I use it in a dosing pump?
Some keepers do, particularly for holiday feeding. Use wide bore tubing, keep the run short and test it before you rely on it, because the larger particles can block narrow lines.
Will LPS corals take it?
Yes, as a target feed. Use a pipette, keep portions small and wait until the feeding tentacles are out.
How is it different from the other Nyos liquid foods?
Chromys is mysis, Artemis is brine shrimp and Goldpods is an Arctic copepod. Each has a different particle profile, and many keepers rotate them to give their fish variety.
Build a Complete Feeding Routine
Chromys works best as one part of a varied routine. Pair it with Pod-Shot for a quick live top-up, build a long-term population with live copepods, and dose 5 Species Phytoplankton to feed the filter feeders underneath it all. If you are unsure how Chromys fits your tank, email me and I will help. Darren responds personally.
