Air Driven Double Sponge Filter
An air-driven double sponge filter suited to small aquariums, fry-rearing tanks and live culture vessels where gentle, safe filtration is needed without the risk of drawing small organisms into a mechanical filter.
Sponge filters provide biological filtration through colonisation of the sponge surface by beneficial bacteria, with water flow driven by an air pump rather than a motor impeller. This makes them the preferred choice for any setup containing small or fragile animals - newly hatched brine shrimp nauplii, rotifer cultures, seahorse fry and fish larvae will not be pulled into the intake the way they would with a standard powerhead filter. The double sponge design increases the surface area available for bacterial colonisation compared to a single sponge unit, improving biological filtration capacity for the same footprint.
The filter attaches to the aquarium glass via suction cups and stands approximately 23cm tall including the standpipe, with a base footprint of 16cm x 6cm. An air pump is required to operate it and is not included - Reefphyto stocks air pumps and airline accessories separately.
