The rockwork is already full. Balance them on a ledge and a wandering snail has them on the floor by morning, and you spend the next week hunting for plugs behind the rock.

The Reefphyto Tank Wall Frag Rack is a small honeycomb shelf that sticks to the inside of your aquarium glass with two suction cups. It gives you a 200mm by 80mm deck of 58 hexagon holes, off the sandbed and at whatever height suits your corals.

Picture your frags in one tidy row in the light, in clear flow, where you can check them every day without moving a thing.

I have been working in marine aquaculture for more than 18 years and I designed this rack here in Wales, around the way reef keepers actually use frags. Each one is printed in reef-safe PETG in our own workshop.

Give your frags a place of their own, and keep the rest of the tank clear.

What the Tank Wall Frag Rack Is

This is a shelf-style frag rack in black PETG with your choice of orange trim, white trim or an all-black finish. Orange and white options have a matching Reefphyto logo on the front edge. The all-black option has black trim and a black logo that blends into the body for a discreet finish. The body stays black in all three colour options. A rear plate runs the full length of the rack and carries two clear suction cups, one near each end. Press the cups onto clean glass and the honeycomb deck sits level, sticking out into the tank like a small shelf. Two triangular gussets at the ends brace the deck against the rear plate, so it stays rigid with frags on it.

Why a Honeycomb Deck

The 58 hexagon holes are arranged in five staggered rows, so you are never stuck with a fixed grid. You can spread your plugs out to suit the corals you have, and move them along as they grow. The open deck also lets water move up through the rack, past the base of each frag, and lets detritus fall through instead of settling around your plugs.

How Many Frags Does It Hold?

That depends on the plugs and how much room you want to give each coral. Our Transparent Coral Frag Plugs have an 18mm top, which is wider than the spacing between neighbouring holes. So you would use around every third hole, which gives you room for about 18 plugs. Most keepers will want fewer than that, because a frag needs space to grow and coral tissue from one should not touch the next.

Where to Put It in the Tank

Because it sits on the glass, you choose the height. Start light-sensitive corals lower down and move the rack up in stages as they settle, or keep it high for SPS that want more light. Put it where it gets good flow across the deck, and on a side or rear pane where you can see the frags easily. In a nano tank it gives you a useful amount of extra space without touching the scape. It works just as well in a frag tank or a sump refugium with lighting.

Fitting and Cleaning

Scrape the glass clean where the cups will sit, then press each cup firmly into place while the rack is empty. Add your frags once it is secure. To clean it, slide your fingernail under the edge of each cup to release the seal, lift the rack out, and scrub it in tank water with a soft brush.

If you are building up a fragging kit, ISTA Aquarium Glue fixes your frags to their plugs. For a smaller rack that fits into a tank corner, see the Triangle Frag Rack. Each hexagon hole is 12.5mm across the flats.

Will my frag plugs fit?

Plugs with stems made for the standard 12mm frag rack hole will fit, including the plugs we sell.

What is it made from?

Reef-safe PETG, printed in our workshop in Wales. The suction cups are clear aquarium suction cups.

What kind of glass does it need?

The cups need a flat, clean, smooth pane. It goes on the inside of the tank, so glass thickness does not matter.

Is it for colonies or frags?

It is designed for frags on plugs, which is the stage where corals need a safe place to settle. Once a coral has grown on, it is ready to move onto your rockwork.

What is in the pack?

One Tank Wall Frag Rack with two suction cups fitted.

If you are not sure where this would sit best in your tank, get in touch.
