It sits outside the tank or culture vessel and pushes air down a length of airline to an air stone, a rigid air tube or an air driven filter. It is not submersible. It also suits a brine shrimp hatchery, a small air driven sponge filter in a fry or quarantine tank, or an air stone in a small aquarium. If the power goes off, water can siphon back down the airline into a pump that sits below the water line, and a check valve stops that.
